ACER has identified the improvement of outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander learners as an organisational priority.

Acknowledgement of Country

In the spirit of reconciliation ACER acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today. ACER acknowledges the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who continue to contribute to our work to improve learning, education and research.

Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)

ACER’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) was developed in a collaborative partnership with Reconciliation Australia. The RAP is a statement of our commitment to build deeper mutual understanding and more effective relationships with First Nations peoples, and to promote the integration of First Nations’ cultures, histories and knowledges into Australian educational processes.

ACER statement on the Voice to Parliament campaign

In the spirit of reconciliation, ACER’s Board and Executive support an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to Parliament. The Uluru Statement from the Heart includes an invitation to walk together in a movement of the Australian people for a better future. We accept this invitation.

Through our work, we understand the importance of collaboration with First Nations people in fulfilling our mission of improving learning. Our experience is that listening to the voices of First Nations communities and researchers is critical for ensuring that successful education policy, practice and outcomes are achieved for all Australians.

ACER continues a journey of understanding and reflection on how we can be responsive to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through the contributions we make to education. We see this statement of support for the Voice to Parliament as an important step for our organisation.
